I mended something! The cupholders on my Volvo were broken (shocking that they broke, isn't it?) So i went to the local pick n pull yard and found a 98 V70 which had them looking brand new. A few screws later and $8 poorer, i had new ones! Got home, screwed them in, and they work! Volvo wants over $80 for them!!! So proud since this was the first thing i fixed all by myself. Im not very handy with this stuff so... Big deal for me!

Congratulations on your first mend. May it be one of many.

Those cupholders are such terrible design. My gf has a 98 xc70 that had the same issue. As a heads up, if you can't find them at junkyards/pick-n-pulls, i found them online at fcpeuro and a few other spots (ipdauto, also). Much more reasonable prices there.
Anywho, congrats on the fix! Just wait til your gear shift illumination light goes, and then you have to pull the entire center console to reach the one bulb.

Are you not going to be selling it then?

I went and looked at a 99 XC yesterday and miraculously, the cupholders were intact!
However, the leaking heater core, disconnected rear driveshaft, knocking in the front suspension and mostly the wive.gov order that I not acquire another car until we get rid of the Mini Cooper meant it did not come home with me.

Sadly with this car, I think so... but hey, I'm learning so it's kinda fun.
I'm also getting to bond with my dad, something that I really haven't been able to. He's helped me with the mechanical stuff a lot, like changing hoses and wiring harnesses. We also did the headlights together.

I... I don't know. On one hand I bought this car at a time when I was weak thinking it would make me happy. Which it really didn't at all. It eats up a lot of my money and I don't even daily it.
But last night especially. It was about 65 here in Fl. On my break I went out to her, rolled all the windows down, folded the rear seats, left the hatch open and just laid out there. It reminded me why I wanted a wagon in the first place.
But she also keeps having issues. I think her electrics are going. I'm getting scared honestly. I'd like to get rid of her soon and maybe buy a better one down the road.

Volvo.. making everything more complicated than it should ever be!
I've had that joy quite a bit already with it. Hopefully no more little issues show up... but who am I kidding? I know they will soon enough.
And yes, it is one of the dumbest things ever. It barely held my water bottle!

Oh yeah these cars are just so full of bugs. So so so many bugs. I'm trying to sell mine still. I love her, but these issues she has, are just too much for me and my high school budget to afford. Maybe a few years down the road I can buy a pristine one... without little bugs.
I was amazed at the pick n pull. This 98 V70 was mint. It didn't even have 50,000 miles on it. Got hit hard on rear driver side but the engine and drivetrain were solid. We took so many hoses and wires, and headlights, and trim pieces, and a mirror, and rear wiper motor... from it and hopefully if I need more it'll be there!

Hmmm... where are you located? I'm wanting a cheap Volvo to replace my Mini once it's gone.

Yeah. A good sized cup of coffee will snap those little guys in a minute. The gf and I have resorted to only using the first one for fear of it just snapping it outright.
If only they had used metal instead of plastic it wouldn't be so godawful.

Even dumber: the 850 uses the exact same cup holders, but has the power window switches immediately below them in the console. Not only does that make them nearly impossible to use with the cup holder extended, it also makes the switch module a convenient receptacle for any spills.
When I got mine, the switches all still worked, but were appallingly sticky. I stripped the switch unit down and cleaned it, but it's got me scared enough to never think of using the cup holders. That switch unit is a right pain to get to.

Its about 55 south by me!
I spent my break last night laying in the back of my Volvo because it was so lovely!
Also Bonnie is like the best name ever for that car!

Yeah, I'm going to be honest, I slept in my backseat as well, because it was so nice outside, and my backseat is actually more comfortable than the couch I sleep on in my apartment. (can't afford/can't move a bed in because I live alone).
& I named her after Bonnie McKee, the singer behind "American Girl", even though technically Panthers are built in Canada.
